Apart from online casinos maybe coming into your car in the next few centuries, this year’s New York International Auto Show took place at Jacob Javits Center, NYC, from March 29th to April 7th. The auto show featured an extensive schedule of events, with over 1000 vehicles and a few special exhibits set across the large space of nearly 900,000 square feet.
One of the interesting events of the auto show so far was the annual World Car of the Year award ceremony. The second year in the row, the titular award was won by Volkswagen: the World Car of the Year 2013 is a seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf.
With Volkswagen taking top honours, other categories included World Green Car award, 2013 World Performance Car, as well as the annual World Car Design.
Eco-friendly drivers will be interested to learn that Tesla Model S won in the World Green Car category – this electric sedan is now officially the best choice if you’re looking to go green this year.
The 2013 World Performance Car award saw some tight competition, with many cars among the nominees. In the tight race, Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster, BMW M6, BMW M135i, Aston Martin Vanquish, Audi RS5, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, Renault Clio Sport and the Toyobaru triplets were all left behind by Porsche Boxster and Cayman.
The annual World Design award was won, perhaps unsurprisingly, by Jaguar F-Type, a stunning convertible two-seats sports car that was prominently featured in Lana Del Rey’s “Burning Desire” music video.
All in all, this year’s NY Auto Show seems to be offering a lot of content – and if you couldn’t be there, you can always enjoy in this stunning vehicle gallery!
